I climbed the 114m high 'Dune 45' close to Soussuvlei in the Namib desert and am proud of myself!

From Dec 1st to Dec 16th my wife and I are making a trip to the beautiful Namibia. We make a bus tour and will visit the whole country with its famous and oldest desert of the world Namib, the second largest canyon of the world, the Fish River Canyon, we want to explore lions and other nice animals at the Etosha pan in the north and we want to experience the infinite empty spaces there.

In the moment I stake just two guys, but with a heavy amount:

kbraver is a very good heads-up player, who is listed number 4 in Sharkscope in the category most $ won in 'heads-up between 16$-35$'! His overall ROI is 31% and he really crushes the 21$ 4-man heads-up tourneys at Pokerstars. I stake him with 400$ together with some other guys for a total of 1000$. He plays some higher heads-up games with the money and I am confident that he will succeed there, too. Additionally, he is a very nice guy. I hope that we can build a friendship (at least a net-based one).

herschelw has an unorthodox playing style. I once saw him calling an all-in at a draw heavy-board with small cards on the flop with just K-high. He knew that his opponent did not have an A and is just on a draw or a bluff. He was right, but unfortunately his opponent had KQo. But what for a read! His main success was the 8th place at the Sunday Millions (unfortunately someone else staked him ;-)).
I stake him (again with some others) for an amount of 520$ for a total amount of 1000$. He will play 3/6 and 5/10 Stud H/L with it.

I started an experiment: I multitable 0.05/0.10 NL and add one table after another and want to see how many tables I can handle at the same time. Yesterday I had 10 tables and still had time left. I put the tables on full screen so that they pop-up one after another. My hourly win rate is higher and the variance much lower than at my usual 0.25/0.50 NL 3-tabling. Hm, interesting result. Let's see if I can handle even more tables.

I know that playing 0.05/0.10 does not sound much, but if the amount of tables is huge together with a win rate of 10BB/100 it adds up.

I am doing this staking now for 1 1/2 months. Well, the stakes alone produce a nice profit. However, there are at least 2 persons out of 11 who screwed me and have not payed back yet. If I therefore add the total I am still in the negative. I hope that these 'nice' guys will pay back soon.
Two major stakes will end 31st of October. Then I will give a total summary.

MHFlush

Well, it is too early to draw conclusions. The bandwidth is broad. 1-2 guys took my money and it will be a hard time to get it back. Some other have not so nice results, some have good results and few have great results.

Most of teh stake deals end at the end of October when I will have more to say about this topic.

Due to looking for stakers and rail with them when they play my own play became less and less time-consuming.

MHFlush

I started staking 7 players mainly at Pokerstars last week. The deals are else that I keep 60% or 50% of the winnings so 60:40 or 50:50. If they lose then I lose the same amount.
Example: 200$ -> 250$. I get 225$ they keep 25$
200$ -> 150$. I get 150$ back they get nothing.

Until now I am not so happy about the results: 2 are positive, 2 are even, 2 are somewhat negative and 1 is big in the red. However, the staking deals will last for some time and they did not play so much. Shorttime fluctuations are normal.

I am still analysing the differences between NL50, NL 200 and NL 5000. It is interesting how loose the play becomes at NL5000. On the other hand at NL200 the players are generally extremely tight (VPIP 15). I will publish the results after datamining some more hands.

In this part I present some graphical results of all 34 players with more than 2000 hands. Players 1-20 are winners, players 21-34 are losers.



Conclusion: VPIP should be between 15% and 28%, no real correlation visible




Conclusion: The winning players have an overall higher number of steal attempts, something like 15-30%.




Conclusion: The winning players have an overall higher medium aggression number. The average value of the aggression is 2.21+/- 1.12 for the winning players with >2k hands and 1.65+/-0.81 for the losing players with >2k hands.




Conclusion: The continuation bet number is calculated as how often you bet instead of check (1 means equal numbers of bet and check). The bad players else bet too often or not often enough after a preflop raise. Best numbers 2.5-6



Conclusions: The winning players CR a little bit more often than the losers.

Above you can see a picture of me playing chess.


Out of these 34 players with >2k hands there are 9 players with worse than –2BB/100. Is it possible to give an explanation from the pokertracker data for that? Are these players all calling machines?

Player 1) –15.64BB/100. He has a VPIP of 25% and a total aggression of 2.26, his steal attempts are 27%. His continuation bet number is 3.36. So far so good. But here are some bad stats: PFR: 15%, fold SB to steal 58%, BB to steal 68%, fold to river bet 57%. He raises too often preflop not only as a steal attempt and he refuses to fold his blinds and to river bets.

Player 2) –10.93BB/100. He has a VPIP of 25.5%, a PFR of 4%, he folds the blinds 94% and 78% and has a total aggression of 1.66. However, his continuation bet number is 7.3, which is too high but on the other hand his steal attempts are only 4%. His flop aggression is only 1.73, which does not fit with his continuation bet number. He nearly always bets when he raised preflop but else his aggression on the flop is too low.

Player 3) –9.50BB/100. He has a VPIP of only 13%, a PFR of 14%, total aggression of 2.74, fold to river Bet 69% and Won$SD of 57%. Looks like a good playing rock, does it not? Why is he losing? He folds his SB to 100% steals, but his own steal attempts are only 5%. His continuation bet number is only 1.14. He nearly never CR, his number is only 0.13.
On the button against him, I can raise with any two cards. After he checks to me on the flop, I would nearly always bet without much risk.

Player 4) –6.72BB/100 . He has a VPIP of 14.96, PFR of 6, total aggression 2.88. However, his continuation bet number is 15! This means he bets the flop after a preflop raise nearly always even against more than 1 opponent. He only folds to river bets 61% and folds his SB to a steal only 75%. This numbers say to me that he is highly predictable. After his preflop raise I could very nicely call him down with a monster and could even bet it on the river.

Player 5) -5.52BB/100. He has a VPIP of 25.15, PFR of 9.79, Won$SD of 52. However, he never never CR, number is 0. And he continuation bets far too less, his number is 0.94. This means after his preflop raise there is a good chance that he does not bet and I am able to catch something nice on the turn.

Player 6) - 4.59BB/100. This one is easy. His total aggression is only 0.91 and his VPIP is 27%. The good old calling machine.

Player 7) –3.29BB/100. VPIP 15%, PFR 2%. His total aggression is only 1.01 and his steal attempts are only 2.5%.

Player 8) –2.56BB/100. He has a Won$at SD of 59% and a VPIP of 17. Why is he losing? His continuation bet number is only 0.78 and his steal attempt only 2.5%.

Player 9) –2.19BB/100. He only has a VPIP of 14 and a PFR of 1.3. His steal attempts are only 4.3 and he folds his SB to 95%.

I have just analysed 120k hands of NL50 full-ring, which I have data-mined. I was especially interested in the stats of the best players (very, very few with >8PTBB/100).

The hands are from Prima, Party, Pokerroom, Full Tilt and Pokerstars this and last month.

Excessions pokertracker (www.bet-the-pot.com) series is well known and excellent. However, sometimes he dives not deep enough for my likely and he has many data from guys with only 50 hands or so.

Well, here are the total results:
12472 players with a medium PTBB/100 of –3.92 (of course it is negative due to the rake). 141 players have >1000 hands and 34 players >2000 hands. Out of these 34 players I take a look at the top 4 players, with >8PTBB/100, which have roughly the same style of play. There are two other players with >8PTBB/100, but they have completely different styles and to draw conclusions it is easier to leave them out.

Here are the medium values of the 4 top players, comparison to the worst players out of that 34 (which are still better than the normal fish) and some comments:

1.) PTBB/100: 11.05

2.) VPIP: 21.0 It is well known that a VPIP of roughly 20 yields the best results. The top players have 17-23 VPIP. But also most of the bad players are in that range.

3.) PFR: 6.23% This number seems to be not so important, since many bad players are also in this range.

4.) VPIP_SB: 37.75% I was surprised about this number, I expected a much lower one. And what is even more interesting is that the 4 top players have VPIPs_SB from 23 to 62%! Interesting to note is that the bad players have a smaller VPIP_SB.

5.) Folded SB to steal: 87.20% The SB is the worst position after the flop so one should fold it quite often. But the bad players have roughly the same number.

6.) Folded BB to steal: 79.81% The BB has a slightly better position and more money in the pot. Bad players fold a little bit less often.

7.) Steal attempts: 19.55% This seems to be very important because the bad players steal only 8.07% of the time.

8.) Continuation bet percentage: 4.16. This number is NOT in pokertracker, I divided the “First action after PF raise bet: Bet” though “First action after PF raise bet: Check”. So 4.16 means that you bet 4.16 times more often than check (so roughly 80% to 20%). This number is also surprisingly high. I expected something like 60%. However, also the bad players have 4.22, so this is not a difference to distinguish good and bad players.

9.) Total aggression (without preflop): 3.30. Here we come to the most important thing. The bad players do only have an aggression of 1.95, what is still not bad. But higher aggression leads to higher BB/100. The numbers for flop-turn-river aggression are: 4.09, 2.96, 2.15

10.) Folded to river bet: 69.24%. This is just for reference since the bad players have roughly the same number. However, there are many with a smaller number, which means that one should not call too often.
11.) CR: 0.55%. Also just for reference.



Conclusion (1): Many Blinds Steal attempts, high overall aggression and a high number of continuation bets are important. Less important are VPIP and VPIP_SB. Well, aggression counts that are no new news. However, the exact numbers are somewhat surprising and interesting.




12.) WTSD and Won$at SD: 20.05 and 56.61 Players with high win rates should win often at the showdown, therefore the 56% is no surprise. However, what is important is how often they go to the showdown. The number is 20% with a range from 16-24%. 16% is a surprise since that is the weak-tight region (I am close to it with 17% and have to work on it). 20% on the other hand is a solid number.

13.) Usage of position: VPIP UTG to VPIP Button 8-22% to 20-25% Of course one should play much more hands on the button. Here the real surprise is that 3 out of the 4 heros have 21-22% VPIP UTG and 21-25% VPIP on the button. The 4th guy has 8% UTG and 25% on the button, which sounds more solid. Also interesting is that all 4 raise differently often dependent on position. One has 7% PFR UTG and at the button, one has 0.6% UTG and 10% at the button. Different styles of play lead to nearly the same VPIP and PFR in total.

I quit Poker. Well, not totally. But I cashed out most of my money and plan to just play a few times per month on NL 0,10/0,20 at Royalvegaspoker (Prima skin) with my 70 Dollar remaining cash.

The reason is that I am a winner at low limit NL but not as much as it should be or I would like to be. So I keep poker as a hobby with small extra income and just have some fun playing it. This means I will not keep records of my play and do not have any aims any more.

I cashed out all my money from BetHoldem. After all, I won 5500 Euro (6500 Dollar) in my poker 'career' so far. I need a break. Well, after 2 days, I read some things about Omaha High/Low, which should fit to me: Omaha is a highly complex game with not-so-much bluffing opportunities and you need a smaller bankroll than for Holdem. Since I am a strategic chessplayer, who cannot bluff so well, this hopefully is the right game for me.

Therefore, I will only cash out 1000 Euro from Neteller and use the other 500 Euro for my Omaha 'career'. I will play at 24poker.com (part of Prima network), which offer some nice bonuses. I got a new computer yesterday. My old one crushed after 5 years of usage :-(
Therefore, I was not able to play for 2 weeks and had to do something different in that time. I read Super System and Harrington 2 different times and I am impressed of the quality of both books.

Yesterday I got my new computer and had to adjust to the Windows XP graphics and just played 1 hour. 9 dollars win and close to 2000 dollar bankroll.

Two hands:
a) KK in LP. On raiser in front of me, I raise 3x his amount, he called in EP. Flop 852, he leaded for 5 dollars (1/2 Pot) I thought for a while and just called. Turn Q. Bad card. He went all-in for 25 dollars. I folded. What could he have with which he called a reraise preflop and play so aggressively after the flop? AA-QQ I guess. Against AA and QQ I am dead. Fold okay?

b) 55 in EP, I limp, one raiser, one caller, I call, too. Flop 965 rainbow. I bet pot, raiser raised, other caller folded, I reraise and we were all-in. He had QQ and lost a huge pot.

In the moment I 3-table NL50 instead of 4-tabling. The results with respect to dollars per hour are a little bit worse but on the other hand I can concentrate longer and I can play more and better moves and learning the game itself is also improved. The reads on the opponents are also easier.

In the moment I have played 6k hands with a win rate of 11 dollars/hour. My bankroll is 1900 dollars. 400 more to go!

I will move up to NL100, when I have 2300 Dollars in my account and a win rate of >10 dollars/hour.

After playing 3 weeks, I have played nearly 4k hands. So far I won 10 dollars/hour, which is roughly 5BB/hour/table, which is roughly 7BB/100 hands/table.

I am not sure if I stick to 4 tables. I manage to play well but maybe 3 tables is better to have a better read on the opponents.

NL is really an art and a science. It is very difficult to play, which makes it fascinating to play. I learned a lot in the past weeks and Super System II is still the bible on NL cash games. I do not play as aggressive as Doyle but his recommendations of several hands are something to adapt to my play.

In October I will continue my project until I have 2300 dollars in my account. Then I should have enough hands and enough bankroll to go to 0,50/1 NL.

Some days ago I started my new project, I 4-table the 0,25/0,50 NL at Prima. So far my result is 9 dollars/hour, which is okay.

I started the month with a big bin at 0,25/0,50 PL:

I limp in EP with 99, someone raises in MP, BB calls and I call. Flop is A98. BB bets, I call and raiser calls. Turn is 2. BB bets pot, I raise all-in, raiser calls my all-in, EP calls. River is a rag, BB bets all-in, raiser calls.
BB has A3, yes, A3 and raiser has A8. I cannot blame the raiser for betting two pairs hard, but the BB was braindead. I won a monster pot with my flopped set.

Good results? Not enough to live from poker. By the way, these are winnings without rake-back or bonus.

What do I learn out of these numbers/pictures? Did I become a worse poker player?
2004 was a very good year for me. No losing month at all, stable winnings. At 2005 the players become better. I have not increased the limits, I always played at 0,25/0,50 PL. Since beggining of 2005 it is not easy to even have a modest winning. My win rate per hour for 2005 is 4,50 dollars. Have to think about it.

I like to play PL, but in the moment very few guys share my enthusiasm. Often only 1 table 0,25/0,50 is open with lots of regular players and even at 0,10/0,20 there is nothing.

Therefore, I decided to 4-table 0,10/0,20 NL, up to now with very good success and low variance. The main advantage is that at every time there are enough tables open. Well, I will play some more sessions until I post some numbers.

Yesterday I drove to the airport to pick up my good friend M, back at home I had a good bottle of cider with him. 2% alcohol...

Anyway, after he left my home I played 2 hours at Prima, 4 tabling 0,25/0,50 PL, 0,10/0,20 PL and 0,10/0,20 NL due to lack of open tables. Many bad players and some nice cards helped me to post my largest win since June, 2nd, incredible 67 dollars. Is it due to the cider?
Normally I never play after I drink something, but 2% is not that much.

I am up this month. Why? Because my bad streak ended and I do not play as aggressively and do not bluff so hard any more. ABC poker suits me best and lead to my best results. However, it is boring after some time...

Anyway, yesterday there was only one table 0,25/0,50 PL available at Prima, therefore I decided to give 0,10/02,0PL (20$ max) a try. I had some nice cards and the people played unbelievable bad there. Funny that going down one step in limit results in such a big difference of playing strength. In total I won 24 dollars there and lost 6 at 0,25/0,50 for a total win of 18 dollars.

15 dollars per hour is nearly impossible in the moment. There are not enough fishes any more, too many regulars. However, with rake-back and bonuses it is still a nice 'hobby' amount.

I have a rake-back deal for both Absolute Poker and BetHoldem (Prima skin).

What I learned is, that the calculation and the rake itself is calculated very differently. I am a winning player but of course I do not want to pay more than necessary.

They rake only when the Pot is >=5$. For the rake-back deal and the bonus payment they count ALL raked hands even if you have folded and did not pay anything for the pot. Of course you are not allowed to sit out ;-)

The play itself is very very tight. Even at 0,50/1 limit the flop percentage sometimes is below 30%. This makes winning difficult and fun is close to zero.

The people are mostly weak there. Clearing of the 100$ bonus is very easy, just playing 700 raked hands, which will be done in a few days.

The rake is the same as for Absolute, but they rake even if the pot is smaller than 5$. For the rake-back deal they only count raked hands where I put money in! Therefore, the total rake-back is much smaller if you play tight poker.

After some play in the weekend I can post a few dollars loss. As I observed for several months players became better. But on the other side, without sounding arrogant, I still think that I am one of the best 0,25/0,50 PL players at Prima.

On the weekend a chat talk was very useful to me. After loosing a pot I wrote to a guy 'You always play very obviously'. Another guy, a relatively good player, said afterwards the same to me. He was right! Therefore I chenged my play a little bit, bet an unimproved AK on flop AND turn, check-raised a lot and so on and it worked! My style of play is too obvious normally. There are many fishes who do not believe me when I have a good hand therefore I am a good winner against most players, but against the regular playing guys I indeed have to play differently then normal tight-straightforward style.

One gets 1 point for each raked ahand and 5 additional points for all pots of >20$. The top guys of this list 4-table short-handed 1/2$ NL!! Okay, this is more than 2-3 tables 0,25/0,50 PL and I do not play as much. But I am impressed of the number of players at BetHoldem. Much more than on CaptainCookspoker.

I am back to the 0,25/0,50 PL tables at Prima Poker. I tried another Prima page 'www.betholdem.com' .
I have a rake-back deal with 35% rake-back and I will receive a 100$ bonus after playing just 700 raked hands. That's the reason why I changed from CaptainCooks Poker.

Well I had two sessions so far, one I lost 70$ and on the other I won 65$. Pretty good with the garbage I had. Only 15% flop percentage.

Different scenario. With this hand I can stand a (moderate) reraise especially with more caller. However, I do not want many people in the hand. Therefore, I deviate from what is written in the books and raise almost always.

Mostly I fold this in EP. Raising is too agressive and limping is possible but I do not like to limp being first in the pot.

I had a 2,5 weeks holiday in Irland. 3000km around the island with my wife in a rental car. Especially the west coast is nice. Many cliffs, nice sand beaches and several castles to explore. However, the weather... ;-)

Back to poker 1 week ago I tried to become a bonushunter. Therefore, I deposited 1000 dollars via Neteller at Absolute to get the maximum bonus of 500 dollar. Well, the bonus requirements sounded easy: Per 100 raked hands (rake >0.25$ equals a pot size of >5$) one gets 10 dollars bonus.
Sound great: However, the downside was that the floprate even at 0.5/1 and 1/2 limit games the floprate was only 25%. And the average player was stronger than what I was used to. Play was not fun. Many, many folds preflop tahn one raiser, everybody folds. Next hand: Everybody folds to the blinds. And so on and so on.
To make this story short after 70 dollars loss but 70 dollars bonus win I withdraw my 1000 dollar back to my Neteller account and will go back to Prima network, where at least the players are weaker.

After nearly 9 months of successful play of 0,25/0,50 PL and rarely 0,50/1 PL at Captain Cooks Poker, I decided to move up and play 0,50/1 PL whenever possible.

The players are (of course) a little bit better but still there are many maniacs and players who did not get a table at the 0,25/0,50 tables and therefore play on the higher stakes but are fish.

I will give the results after some more sessions.

Again a not satisfying month. 368 dollar or 9 dollars/hour is not so great.

Yesterday I had a very bad session, where I lost Set over Set, flopped full house vs. better flopped full house and so on.

I read 'Tournament Strategy for Advanved Players' by Sklansky and must say that this is a great book. I will focus more on multi-table tournaments now. I do not know how profitable they are but there is many fish to fry for sure.

This is not my best month. I have won something, but not too much.

I started playing sit and go tournaments recently and will publish the results after finishing 100 tournaments of 5+0,50 SNG at Captaincookspoker. In the moment I can say that it is a nice new experience and it is really more fun than ringgames. Is it profitable? I will give a conclusion after the 100 tournaments.

My summary of March 2005 is as following:

I won 736 Dollar, which sounds very well. My hourly win rate is 14-15 dollar, which means that this high win resulted due to a large amount of time playing poker.
Playing 0,25/0,50 PL at Captaincooks Poker is nice and I will keep playing it although the win rate is lower than I want ;-)

On the other hand I am dissatisfied with my tournament play. I have never reached a final table yet(one exception was a 2 tables 10-handed sit+go were I won). My style seems to fit well for small limits but ultra tight play is not the way to win tournaments. It helps often to reach the bubble and sometimes to survive the bubble but for winning a tournament I have to take more risks for sure.

This month is very good. I was able to win 589 dollars until now with a win rate per hour of 16 Dollars. I noticed a lot of new players at Prima poker. Not all of them are good ;-)
On easter I plan to play 3 days full. Hopefully the tables are crowded, which is unfortunately not always the case.

Looking back I can say that I play even more aggressive than a few months ago. I bet more on worse-than-nuts holdings. I am safisfied with the win rate but still my aim is to reach 30 dollars/hour some time.

I plan to play as many freerolls as possible to qualify for WSOP satellites.

I played the whole month my standard 0,25/0,50 pot-limit game at Captaincooks Poker. Play was fishy like usual.

I was able to win 511 dollars or close to 15 dollars/hour, playing 2-3 tables at the same time.

This limit and the players fit very well to me. However, it seems impossible for me to win more than that amount of roughly 15 dollars/hour. It is not bad, however, because my standard deviation is rather small.

How to make progress? In March my aim is 600 dollars meaning I have to play more. I will mix occasionally some pot-limit tournaments, which are unfortunately rare. And I will play 0,50/1 dollar PL more and more often. Wish me luck!

I played the whole Febraury my standrad 0,25/0,50 PL games and sometimes 0,50/1 PL, but only a short period of time. My win is close to 400 dollar or 14 dollars/hour.

Yesterday I played a 10+1 PL Freezeout tournament and managed to lose my whole stack in 2 hands. Who can that happen?
First hand: AKs in MP, I raise two caller. Flop saw three small cards, two of my suit. First caller checked, I bet the pot with my nutflush-draw and 2 major overcards, guy behind me folded, EP called. Turn saw a rag, person in EP checked and I checked, too, to get a free card. River saw unfortunately a rag, too, he bet 3/4 of the pot and i folded.
Second hand: I have QQ in EP and raise and got three caller. Flop was Q62 all in one suit. So I flopped the top-set on a somewhat dangerous board. A small bet in front of me, I bet the pot, all fold except the guy with the small bet who reraised! I Thought and went all-in with my remaining chips. He called and won with his 87s flopped flush.

I think I was just unlucky I would play these hands the same every time again.

I am still playing 0,25/0,50 PL at Captaincooks Poker. My win rate is like usual and it is a lot of fun. Occasionally, I played at the higher 0,50/1 tables, too, but they are often empty.

My summary for January:
It was the worst month since I started playing online poker, just 70 dollars win. Okay a win is better than a lose but that was not nice. Is it due to NL? I do not know. I feel much more comfortable on the 0,25/0,50 PL tables. On the other hand I switched back to 0,25/0,50 PL tables at the last day of the month and lost 200 dollars in one session. I went on tilt, kept on playing, played badly and was unlucky all together.

In February, I have a small win until now and I plan to play on the rarly opened 0,50/1 PL tables, too, otherwise I play the usual 0,25/0,50 PL tables.

I had a short session with 0,50/1 NL at Captaincooks Poker. There are still maniacs, but fewer of them.
One example: Maniac limps, I raise the pot, everybody folded except of the maniac who called. Flop was AK2 he went all-in (!) and I folded of course with my two queens. He had 66. How is it possible that someone goes all-in prior to a solid preflop raiser with such a flop? I cannot believe it. He was just lucky that I did not had any AK, AQ, AJ or KK in my hand, then I would have called him.
I cashed out my second Neteller check. I always cash out when I have more than 1000 Euro on my account. Nice feeling. I am not a rich man due to poker but it is a good second small income.

Is there anybody out there except my teacher who reads this blog? If yes I would be happy about a comment.

I have finished playing 3 weeks intensively 0,25/0,50 NL at Captain Cooks Poker.
Results are not bad but not as good as I thought they would be.

I won roughly 8 dollars/hour playing two tables at the same time. On the other hand the standard deviation is less than expected, 30 dollars/hour. This I think is due to the fact that I refuse to play many hands on raised pots.

Results are worse compared to pot-limit. Reasons?
1.) People seem to play better or at least more aggressive at 0,25/0,50 NL.
2.) I have to learn not to call to often, I am still too tight-passive.
3.) Bad luck (?)

Anyway, I decided to move upwards to 0,50/1 NL. Hopefully, people do not play so wildly there like in 0,25/0,50.

In the moment I have a downturn. Only 7 dollars/hour of 2,5 weeks NL holdem at Captain Cooks Casino, win of 210 dollars in total.

Yesterday I lost with a flopped Flush vs. a Set, which won with a full house.
And I lost with JJ vs. QQ, which played very passive the whole time.

It is more difficult to 'control' the table. There are many very aggressive players and only few calling machines.

I do not want to complain to much but in the last week I had many bad hands and bad beats. Hopefully, the rest of the month I come back again.

After playing two weeks of 0,25/0,50 NL poker at Captain Cooks Poker, I am satisfied with my results. Although I lost yesterday (details below), I averaged 13,5 dollars/hour play on two tables simultaniously, which is somewhat better than my pot limit results.
Play is much more aggressive than pot limit. One example?

I have AA in MP, the person in EP bet 1$, 2 callers, I raised to 4 dollar, the guy in LP called and the person in EP raised to 6$. Very stupid, because I would never ever fold to such a small reraise. I went all-in with my whole stack and as well the person in LP, as the person in EP called! The flop saw a J, which gave the EP raiser the winning hand with his JJ. The person in LP had KK. LP player had not so much money in front of him, therefore his play was absolutely correct but EP raiser should have folded to my reraise, should not have reraised himself, and should have folded to my all-in bet.

Another one?

I have AKo in EP, raise to 2$ and got only one caller in LP. Flop saw AJ9 rainbow. I bet the pot of roughly 5$, he called. Turn was a blank and I bet again the pot, which was roughly 16$ and he thought and thought, and folded. In the chat he asked me what I had, he said that he holded three 9's. Is this a lie? My teacher would have never folded this, right?

After playing two tables, one week, of 0,25/0,50 NL holdem in Captaincooks Poker (CCP) (roughly 13 hours) I can conclude that my results are close to my pot-limit ones. I have a win rate per hour of 12 dollars and in total a win of 180 dollars.
Not bad and in principle no big surprise since my calling, betting, raising behavior is very similar to PL. I, too, always bet the pot in NL. Only exception is when betting the pot is close to my whole stack. Then I go all-in of course.
I will play some more time and then move upwards to 0,50/1. As I said before my final aim is winning 25 dollars per hour, which cannot be realised lower then a limit of 1/2.

I started playing 0,25/0,50$ no-limit (NL) holdem at Captaincooks Poker (CCP). After only two days of playing I do not want to give a conclusion or something like that just a few observations/comparisons to pot-limit:

1.) bluffing at the river seems to be more common in NL.
2.) players play tighter at NL, but there are still a lot of junk players around.
3.) I have not yet met one single player from the PL tables. Do they all stick to PL?
4.) NL is different than PL but not very much since I bet in NL always pot like I did in PL, too. I do not want to let people anything know about my hands and therefore I bet always the same amount (exceptions are rarely all-in bets of course)

Mostly, I complain about being outdrawn. Here is an exception:
I raise in early position with KK, three callers. Flop was QJ9 rainbow, giving me top pair with gutshot draw. I bet the pot and had only one caller. He could have had nearly anything, QJ, TT, 99. The turn saw a 9, which gave me another possibility, the full house. Therefore, I bet again the pot, moving me all-in, he called. River was a T, resulting in a straight. He had AA,, which i would never had expected because he never raised. So only a K or a T would have saved me.

I am satisfied with the results, since I am no semiprofessional player like so many others. Next year I will start the adventure No-limit, starting with 0,25/0,50 over 0,50/1 to my aim 1/2. My aim of earnings per hour is 25$.
I play at Captaincooks Poker exclusively (Part of Prima network, like Royal Vegas Poker and Gaming Club Poker), because there are the most and best No-limit and Pot limit games available.

Nearly 400 dollars win this month. Not bad, but not good enough for me. I have plenty of tim e at year's end and play a lot.

Yesterday was a boring session at Captain Cooks Poker (CCP), I got nothing at all until....
Until I busted within 2 hands the moneyleader on my table.

First hand: I had 44 and flopped KT4 with two hearts. I bet the pot and the guy was the only one who called. Turn was a 7 no heart. I bet the pot again and he reraised! I thought for a moment. KK and TT was not in my mind because of no preflop raising. 77? Not very likely, he would have folded on the flop. Maybe a flush draw or two pairs. So my decision was clear, I called all-in, river was a blank and he had indeed KTo so I won a nice large pot. Did he make a mistake? I think yes, he should have reraised on the flop. I would have reraised again and then he should have folded. The reraise on the turn was a mistake because due to my bet he should have recognised that I am not on a Flush draw.

Second hand: I raised with KJo 2 seats away to the button. A few caller. I flopped QT9 rainbow, the nut straight. I again bet the pot, he called me down to the river and I won the rest of his money.

A nice feature in CCP is that one can see the number of raked hands per month. In December I have 439 raked hands until now.

Good news from the money side of view: I won 65 dollars yesterday.

However, I played a 1000$ freeroll tournament with 1000 participants, 80 prices. I played extremely tied, beacuse I played at the same time 3 tables 0,25/0,50 PL, which had a higher priority for me. I went two times all-in with good hands and won both and was in the prices with roughly 5000 chips. Then I was blinded down more and more but I kept on waiting for a hand. I was down to 2000 with 300/600 blinds and went all-in with QJs. Two callers, but I won! Together with the blinds I managed to win several thousand chips. I went again all-in with KK and later I called an all-in of a short-stacked man with AK vs. AQ. I played very aggressive according to my 'teacher' MV. I collected more and more chips and got finally 120.000 chips with 11 players left, 3rd place until now.

Then it happened: I went all-in with AKo in EP and the only person who had more chips then me called with KK and busted me. Was it a mistake to keep on going all-in? I could easily have managed to come to the final table but played far too risky. The other guys on the table had 10000-50000 chips and a raise of 20000 would have had the same effect. Stupid mistake.

Yesterday I cashed out on my Neteller account the last 290 dollars of my Party poker account. Two things I found disappointing at Party poker: Firstly, the players are so unbelievable bad at the 25$ PL tables that I was not able to control the game, my nerves or anything. If somebody plays random hands, bets randomly and draws randomly it is not so much fun. Secondly, the rake is very high. Nobody seems to care, but I do. For a 5$ pot it is 0,50, double as high as in the Prima network. I won at Party poker but not the same amount than in the Prima network and it was not so much fun. That is my resumee.

I had a nice weekend trip and played therefore not much. Yesterday, I was at 10:55 pm at home, very clos, to play a special tournament at Captaincooks Casino. I was a little bit exhausted and played badly in the beginning as I noticed that 87 participants could earn 70 prices ! Yes, 70 prices in a freeroll tournament. Unbelievable! There were several people who did not play a single hand, just waited until enough players are locked out. I could very well be one of them but with aggressive paly and luck I recovered a little bit and could manage a 16. place and 16 dollars win. I was proud of myself because I did not panic with a short stack.

It is time to resume my 'work' on November. I was able to manage a win of 580 dollar or 12 dollar/hour. Not bad, but I am (unfortunately) too ambitious to be really satisfied with the results ;-)
I found on some websites rake rebate offers. I agreed to one where I get 20% of my rake back and together with that I got a 50 dollar bonus by creating a new account on Captaincooks Poker, which is like Gaming Club Poker a skin of the Prima network. Since November, 27th, I play exclusively only on that side and I am very curious about my generated rake.
Yesterday I made a laydown I am proud of:

I am in the SB with AKo, some people call in front of me, I raise the pot, I caller and one who reraises somewhat. Normally a sign of big strength. I called anyway, because of the other limper still in the pot. Heads-up, I would have folded. Anyway, flop saw K83 rainbow and I bet the pot. The limper called but the reraiser bet the whole pot. This is again a sign of big strength and I put him on KK or AA and I folded. He indeed had AA. Very rarely I am able to read hands so well like in that case. The limper was not able to lay it down and payed heavily.

Last weekend I played the 5 diamonds freeroll tournament. The winner could win travaling to the bellagio in Las Vegas and play on a 1500$ tournament. To enshorten the story: 235 participants, I became 24. with 24. prices. Good timing!
I like my style of playing. I play tight but in the middle stage of the tournament not aggresive enough. I did not get any good hand except of twice KJs, but someone in front of me raised high and I folded. But stealing the blinds means really stealing that I have to learn. Anyway, I am satisfied with the results. Together with this freeroll tournament I received 80 dollars bonus for 1235 raked hands.
Yesterday I had a really horror session, lost twice with K-high flush vs. A-high flush, straight vs. flush and got nothing after AK or AQ preflop. I 'only' lost 55 dollars, which is quite okay on such a day. Still I am close to my aim of 500 dollars per month.

As longer I play as more 'lucky' and 'bad' beats occur.
Yesterday and the day before I had the following hands:
Nut Straight after turn but lost against a rivered full house (odds against it 10-1).
Yesterday I was UTG and raised with AQs, one small reraise behind me and won caller of this rearise on the button. I thought for a while and called, too. Flop was Q86 rainbow. I checked to wait for acheck-raise or check-call, because I was nearly sure that someone bet. The original reraiser bet small, the man UTG bet the pot and I thought again. If he had a set, he would probably only called. Two pairs were nearly impossible, because he called reraise preflop. I was not sure, the clock gave me the alarm ring and I called, the original reraiser folded. Turn was a perfect Q (at least I thought so). I bet the pot, the man on the button called and went all-in. River was an A and I won with QQQAA full house. What did he have? Q6o!!! Unbelievable. He called a reraise with it, had two pairs after the flop and nearly the nut full house on the turn. Therefore I had only 6 outs (the 8s and Aces) on the river.

I cashed in my first check from Neteller, 1186 Euro. More than 2/3 of that was win of my poker sessions. Nice.

I won 330 dollars up to now in November. Yesterday, during a (most probably) winning hand my internet crashed so that I lost the hand. I became angry and quit it. The 5 Diamonds promotion at Prima network is at its end. I won 80 dollars in bonus and (hopefully) a invitation to a freeroll tournament at Saturday.
The swings became big in November but I do not really know why. I played versus many people how did not fold and outdrawed me.
I still have to work on some aspects of my game. Checking in front position is nearly always a sign of weakness on my part. Very rarely I check-raise, I should do this more often but I am always afraid of giving a free card.

I played half an hour in a bad mood yesterday. I SHOULD NEVER DO THAT!
I lost a very large pot the following way:
Someone raised in front of me, I reraised with QQ all others fold, he called. Flop was 752 all hearts. One of my queens was a heart, too. With a big pair and a good flush draw I bet the pot. He reraised. With hesitation I went all-in, he called and won with AKs in hearts. He had the absolute nuts at the flop. Did I make a mistake? At least I should have thought about his rearise on th flop. But on the other hand, it could well have been a semi-bluff with an A in hearts and a nutflush drawing. I am still not sure. The only think where I am sure is:
I SHOULD NEVER PLAY WITH BAD MOOD!

November is agreat month until now. I could manage a win of over 300 dollars until now. I play very much because Prima poker offers a special bonus. For each 300 raked hands one gets 20$ bonus. For 300 raked hands I need roughly one week so I hope that I will win for 4 weeks playing 80 extra bucks. Together with that it is possible to win a lucky price of 1000 dollars. Let's see how much extra money I can earn.

I won 20 dollars yesterday on a 2 hours session.
One interesting hand:
I raise with AKo in MP, one caller. Flop was KJ4 all in spade; i do not have a spade. Anyway I bet the pot but the guy behaind me reraised whereas I fold. Afterwards I asked him what he had and he said he had a flopped set of jacks and congratulated me to my good laydown.

I had a very good short session yesterday. I won 49 Dollars in 50 minutes. I played very aggressive post-flop. I think that I checked too often when I missed the flop. However, even with only 2 overcards against two opponents an occasional try is good.
I busted someone with KTs with a flush after the turn vs. queen high flush. I lost with JJ vs. AA. There are often people who reraise with AKo or even nothing when they are short of money so I will normally always try it.

Here my review of October:

I managed my goal of making 500 dollars a month. In total I earned 529 dollars playing 2 to 3 tables Pot limit holdem at Gaming Club Poker and ( very rarely) Party Poker. I played most of the times at full tables but tried some short-handed games, too.
I have just read a very nice book by Schoonmaker 'The psychology of poker'. He classified each poker player into one of the 4 categories loose-tight passive-aggressive and described the motives for playing each of this styles. Nobody is born as a tight-aggressive player but as one of the other three styles. For me it became clear after reading this book that I am a tight-passive player. However, I became more and more aggressive. I started with a flop rate of 20% and below and a aggression factor (bet+raise /call) < 0.7. Now I have a flop rate of 20-25% and an aggression factor of roughly 1.5. I still have many mistakes in my play.

Coming back to my earnings the summary is that I make roughly 9 dollars an hour at 0,25/0,50 PL tables, which is roughly 5-10BB per table per hour. Not bad but can be surely improved.

I had two winning session yesterday and the day before. I am close to my aim of making 500 bucks this month and shortly after that I plan to cash out half of my money. What do I really won? Are this numbers or is it real money? I want to feel the money not counting the numbers.
I had luck with KK vs. AA because a K flopped. We reraised until he was all-in. No bad play from me I would always do this. There are so many people rereraising with AKo, 99 or other losers against KK.

I strated the weekend on Friday with a 60 dollars loss on the short-handed table. Aftzer that I decided to quit those games. Short-handed is nice if you like to bluff and know when and to whom you should do it. I do not like bluffing very much. My conclusion of short-handed play: The swings are higher, the winnings comparable to long-handed play.

From then on I started playing THREE tables of 10-handed 0,25/0,50 Pot-Limit poker. Playing three handed is not difficult if you played two tables short-handed before.
Hm, the whole weekend I won. In total 250 dollars. I have the feeling that I really control those tables. On the other hand I really would like to play higher limits but those tables are not available or totally crowded.

I had a short winning session yesterday (20 dollars in 1hour 20 minutes). I lost heavily against a calling machine. I had A6o in the BB, flop saw Axx and I bet until the river he called me down as usual. But that time he had A9o and won my whole 50 dollar stack. On the other hand I won some other nice pots. I still do not have the feeling that I have control of these short-handed tables. My profit is high but the fluctuations are very high, shich means that I still do not want to give a conclusion.

I had a short session yesterday (1 hour) and posted a 21 dollars win. Not bad since I was again far behind. I am still not sure if I play to many starting hands for my style. I see roughly 30-35% of all flops which is low but maybe still to high.

Again a loss. This time 33 dollars. Sounds bad but I was far higher behind. Sometimes playing on this short-handed tables is like flipping a coin. You have to play worse hands and neither you nor your opponent know how good their hands are.
I like players who always bet if they hit at least one pair on the flop. They bet quite low and I know this guy has second pair but I am weaker so I should fold. I still play always the same: check, rarely call and bet the pot. Check-raise works very well because these guys always think that check means weak and they think check-raise is a bluff. Sometimes it is but mostly I use it as a weapon.

I played 3 hours on Friday and 2 and a half hour on Sunday short-handed Pot limit holdem. On Friday I managed a win of 123 Dollars on Sunday itw as +/- 0 Dollars. The swings are huge so I wait for some more sessions to give a conclusion. Playing two tables at the same time is much more difficult than on 10-handed tables but I can handle it. But more than 2 tables at the same time is definitively not possible.

I cannot slowplay hands but on two occasions I did it as good as possible.

hand 1: I had JTo in the BB, flop was JTT. I checked like everybody else. Turn was a J, which gave me the nuts. One gay bet the pot, I reraised the pot and he called. On the river a 6 came, he checked I bet the pot and was sure that we seperate the pot. He called but lost. I think he had a T but then I would have never called if I were him.
The other occasion I limped with 99, flop was A92. I checked, somebody bet the pot, I reraised, he reraised and I reraised again set him all-in. He had A2 and I won a nice pot.

Yesterday I lost 93 dollars in a 90 minutes session.

The worst hand: I had T9o in the BB and limped in. The flop was T94 and I bet out, one caller. Turn was a 3, I bet again and was called until the river. He had 44. I lose quite heavily vs. flopped sets. I do not see any way to prevent this. I think with my aggressive style it is inevitable to have some heavy losing sessions. On the other hand the winnings are much higher than normal.

I had a short session yesterday. I can tell you that I was able to win 83 dollars in 50 minutes play. Everybody seemed to doubt that I have a good hand.

Examples:

I raised preflop with 10-10 in MP and had one caller behind me. Flop was 10-9-8 rainbow. A nice flop. I have trips but have to play it fast because of the straight possibilities. I raised the pot and he called. Turn was a small card I bet again the pot he called, river was a king I bet the pot he folded.

I limped with QTo three callers. Flop was Q55 rainbow. Two checks in front of me, I bet the pot, one caller. Turn was a 7, a small bet in front of me, I raised all-in and to my surprise he folded. This could have lost me a lot of money. I am still used to 10-handed game and a good kicker is very important for me.

Up to now short-handed play worked very well. I forgot to tell you that I played at two tables at the same time. One table was rather slow so that this was no big problem.

I had a very long session yesterday. I lost 23 dollars in over 3 hours play. The reaosn for playing so long was that I lost havily in the beginning. Twice I bluffed in situations where my opponents had made hands.

I changed tables agaian and again. After a while I found a very loose table. Everybody wanted to see the flop, no raises preflop, low bets after the flop. With aggressive play I was able to win some of the money back.

As I promised in my last hand I tried short-handed play.

To my own surprise with extremely aggressive play I managed to win 148 dollars in 7 hours play over the weekend. I was surprised that many people are not aggressive preflop. Even with pocket kings and aces some people did not raise. Well, I was trapped one time with pocket aces vs. my pocket kings but I would have reraised anyway if he had reraised me so he would have won even more money. On the button and in late MP I raise with A-9, A-8, 7-7, K-J, ... if nobody has entered the pot and even then I may do it. I think raising is much superior than just calling. Quite often I win the pot right here. On a reraise I will normally fold. I will try some more days and can give a conclusion in about one or two weeks.

On October, 6th I did not play any poker. Yesterday I again had a bad session and lost 54 dollars in 2 hours play.

I can complain about losing AA vs. 2 pairs, KK vs. AA (he never raised!) and AK after a AKT flop on a rivered straight. On the other hand such bad beats are normal.

Today I will give short-handed a try. I think short-handed is much faster than 10 player ringgames, so playing two tables at the same time is maybe somewhat tough.

I had a long session yesterday.

First I tried out the 10+1$NL tournament. 164 participants, 20 prices. I had not really a good hand until level 3 where I got JJ in MP and raised. After me a reraise, I reraised back and he set me all-in. He had KK but I was lucky with a flopped J and won. But that was it more or less. Not many good hands preflop and I finshed 36.

After that I played the 1000$ freeroll tournament. To participate one has to play 50 raked hands 24 hours prior to the tournament. I had not therfore I played my usual pot limit game and 1 minute before the tournament they gave their okay. Here I had better hands. 800 particiants 80 prices. 50 people are left then it happened that with a relatively high stake I lost with KK vs. AK. He did not flop an A or a Q. How can I lose that? With a 2,3,4,5 flop and turn.

The blinds came higher and higher and at the end I lost with AK vs. 64. No reason to complain, I became 24. and won 5 Dollar.

The regular pot limit ring game was better, I posted a 30 dollar win.

Oh my god, another horror session. I lost 97 dollars playing my usual 2 tables pot limit at Gaming club. Two times I lost big pots where I had QQ, JJ vs. a flopped set. Do not know how to protect. One time I got reraised after the flop the other time a player played slowly and bet at the river. After reraising I did not fold but reraised back, big mistake I know. The bet at the river on the other hand was bad play by my opponent beacuse I had many outs after a KJ2 flop, an A turned with my QQ and even an A rivered!

Well, how do one know what suits best for him? Am I a good pot limit playe? What about sit-and-gos? Large tournaments? I think I will give large tournaments another try. I have a good style of conservative play until level 4 and 5 then very often the blinds eat me up. I have to work on this.

I can post a marginal win of only 19 dollars over the last three days. On the other hand I reached the reload Party poker bonus. I deposited 150 dollars for which I got a bonus of 30 dollars after playing 210 raked hands. For these 210 hands I needed roughly 3 hours play on two tables.

At Party poker you always find a free chair that are the good news. The bad news are that I do not like their graphics and the fact that I can bring only 25 dollar to the table for my 0,25/0,50 Pot limit. In Gaming club poker it is 50 dollars.

I still chase to much with QQ and a Kxx flop or such things. Often it works but when it does not work I lose a lot of money. Same with AK and rag flop and so on.

My floprate is still in the region of 20 percent but I think I play too much hands especially when I am a little bit on tilt after not getting any good starting hands for a while.

Stopping being on tilt is difficult and I try to work on it.

Last day in September and my first losing day since I started writing this blog. I played roughly 2 hours and lost 32 dollars. I really got only very few hands to play with. Together with this the other guys were much better than the days before. One maniac always raised the pot or folded preflop. In the case of raising th flop he alwys bet the pot on the flop. Always. Nice observation but what does this help when you do not get cards to face him?

Anyway, a win of 777 dollar in September (does this bring me luck in October?) or 17 dollars per hour play. Not bad for a 10 hour per week part time 'job'.

My aim for the following months is 500 dollar per month. Let's see if this is realistic.

Again a good session with 83 Dollar winin 2 hours play. This time I had a flop rate of 23%, won only 5% of all hands but 100% of all showdowns. Many people (including me) always look on the flop rate but I think the last number is the most important especially at Pot/No limit.

I had the feeling of not receiving any good hand at all, but I won a nice Pot with KK, bet pot and had 3 callers and bet again the Pot with three small cards and set 2 players all-in, which both lost. When people have few money left at the table they tend to play more and more garbage. There is an easy healing: Leaving the table. Nobody is forced to play until the end. I quit playing at one table if I have less than 10-15 dollar (I always start with the maximum allowed, 50 dollar). Imagine you have only 2 dollars left and get the nuts.

Another nice pot: I raised pot with AQo in LP and the BB called. Flop was A97 rainbow and of course I bet the whole pot again. He called. Turn was a lucky Q. I bet again the pot my opponent raised all-in, which I called of course. River was a 2 and I won against AKo. So he was a big favorite on the flop. I think my play was the best possible but he should have reraised on the flop. To be honest I do not know what I would have done in that case.

I had a short seesion yesterday. It was a ahrd day at work and I do not think it is a good idea to play too long being tired.
Anyway, I managed a 23 Dollar win after a somewhat rollercoaster-like session.

Lost with KK vs. a Straight.

I had a good laydown: I raised in MP with AQo and got 2 callers. Flop was Q86s. The person UTG bet the whole pot, caller two went all-in relatively short-stacked and I thought. Finally I layed down. Good decision. The better had A5s and flopped the nut flush. I would have never called a pot raise preflop with this hand.

Again many new faces at the tables. This time the players were not as bad as a few days before, but still I see frequently 86o, A2o, 87s UTg and so on. My flop rate is 17%, which sounds very low but on the other hand my win rate in the moment is far beyond my medium value of 7 dollars/hour.

I do not want to tell everybody how cute, intelligent and better I am. This is not the case. Since I started writing this blog I had one big winning session after another. Yesterday was again great I won 70 Dollar in roughly two hours play.

One hand would have set me on tilt but I was the lucky one:
Had 76o in LP and many callers in front of me so I gave it a try. Flop was 775. Everybody checked in front of me. I bet the pot whereas all folded except of one who called. Turn was 5. Very good. He bet the pot, I raised him all in, he called. I was sure that he has a 7 and we would split our full houses. However, river was a lucky 6 and a I won a high pot with a higher full house.

I cannot resist to play big freeroll tournaments. After one hour play or so I will alwys force it with all-in bets. Hm. I think I should just stop it to waste my time with this tournaments. The reason why I play them is that ringgames beome boring after a period of time even if I win. I should work on this.

Had a tough session on Sunday. However, I managed a win of 23 Dollars in 2 hours play. I was very happy with the result since I lost very quickly 50 Dollars until I started winning. My play is tight/ultra-aggresive in the moment. Flop rate still around 20%, but I reraised TT e.g. and set someone all-in who rereraised. Normally, I do not reraise TT, but that guy raised a lot before and had not so much Money left. Anyway, he had JJ, which stood up.

I won back a lot on a bluff. Raised pot in front posistion with QQ, one caller. Flop was AKx I checked, he bet 50 cents. I often see this, people try to rob the pot. I raised the pot, he called. Turn was another x, I continued my bluff with another pot bet. He thought for a while until he folded.

One big difference between limit poker and Pot/nolimit is the small blind. In limit poker you can see the flop very cheap. In Pot limit position is very important. Even if you can see the flop cheap you are at the worst possible position. Therefore, I fold a lot at the small blind except there are many limpers in front oft me. Many people play hands like K9s, T9s, A9o in the small blind, but in my opinion this is dangerous.

Again a very good morning. I earned 116 Dollar in 1 Hour 15 minutes.
Same like yesterday, many people went to the Showdown with marginal drawing hands. Example:

I raised Pot with AA, 3 callers. Flop has AQ6 with two spades. Of course I bet the whole Pot not giving to many Pot Odds. One player called. River showed a 8 not spades, I again bet the Pot set the limper all-in who called and Turn showed another non-spade and I won a nice Pot. He had 54 in Spades and after the turn card only 1-4.1 possibility of making the flush and even then I may have had a higher flush. Turn call was not really justified, but the River bet was horrible.

Another nice hand: An aggressive player in front of me raised 2xBB. I had AKo after him and reraised. AKo is sensible with reraises, but against this player justified. Flop saw 3 small cards rainbow with little Straight possibilities. He checked prior to me. What shall I do? Often I check, sometimes I bet The Pot in this case. I decided to check and get a free card, which was again a small card. We checked down to the river. He won a (small) pot with 99. I am not sure if I should have bet?! He may have called with his Overpair.

My win exceeded 1000 Dollar! I am very happy and will celebrate this with my wife in a nice Sushi restaurant.

A very good day today. Won over 110 Dollars in less than one hour.

People with just drawing hands called my Pot raises again and again even with few outs and did not trust me, what was very expensive for them.

My floprate in the moment is 16-18%, which sounds very low, however, I think in Pot limit and even more in No limit you have to be very careful with drawing hands. Of course one should play drawing hands with many limpers in the Pot, but very often the Pot is raised with 4 BB and I do not think one has enough implied outs then. Therefore, I am very cautious with suited/unsuited connectors and do not play any Gap connectors (e.g.75) at all.
The floprate is low, too, because of the raises of other players. You cannot call with as many hands as in Low Limit Poker.

Yesterday I played a short session at Gaming Club Poker. Did I mention that I always play two tables at the same time?
More tables are in principle possible but in Potlimit Poker and even more in Nolimit you have to watch your opponents. My floprate is roughly 20% so I have enough time to do it.

Yesterdays highest win: I had TT in MP, bet the Pot, one caller in the button. Flop 884. I again bet the Pot and got a call. Turn was a J. Could be dangerous, but anyway I bet the Pot, set my opponent All-in. He has 66. I would never ever call a Potraise with a small Pair. That is what I love in Potlimit Holdem. Many people played limit before and do not understand the difference to Potlimit. I play 66 in Potlimit, too, if someone in front of me called and there are no raises. But heads up against a raiser?
In the moment there must be a promotion in Gaming Club, many, many new players and most of them are weak.
Anyway I collected 23 Dollar and come closer and closer to my first aim, the 1000 Dollar win.

Hi all!

This is my first entry in Potlimit-Holdem.

As you may imagine from the title, I play more or less exclusively Potlimit Holdem, in Gaming Club Poker and Party Poker.

I play the 25$ tables on Party but try to start playing the 50$ tables, too.
In Gaming Club Poker I play the 0,25/0,50$ PL-tables. Higher table limits are only rarely occupied.

My win rate up to know is roughly 7$ per hour for a total of 800$, my aim is 15$/hour and higher.

Some history: As all of you, I started playing Limit Holdem. However, I find it difficult to punish bad plays there. There are so many limpers in the pot, up to the river many things are possible. I did win in limit poker, too, but Pot limit is, at least for me, more fun and higher win rates. I am not a professional poker player and do not plan to be one because my job pays to good. But as a second income it is a nice thing.

Some interesting hands from yesterdays play:

I am in LP, a few limpers in front of me and I limp, too, with A8s. Normally, this is a hand I do not play, but anyway I went for it. The flop came with all three of my suit. All limpers in front of me check, I bet the pot, which was rather small. Winning a small pot is better than nothing I thought. But somebody behind me reraised the pot, I raised again, he bet all-in. He had 87s and I won a nice pot. In my Potlimit book from Cloutier is written that one should not play the suited connectors for a flush. I think his reraise was okay, but he should have been alarmed of my rereraise.

The other interesting hand: I had QQ, put a Pot sized bet Preflop, 2 limpers, one of them was all-in. Flop was Kxx. I checked, the other one bet the Pot. What now? Normally one should fold here, but this time I played against the rules. I raised the Pot, he called. The turn was another rag, but I bet the Pot again and he folded. Two remarkable things: Check-Raise normally does not work on the flop and it can only work if I bet on the turn again. Anyway, I do not plan to do this very often.
